We made it back from St. Louis safely on Monday. And there has been nothing much of interest to report. But this morning, we had four 8-point bucks in the yard in the velvet phase. Most people reading this probably already know what that means, but I did not. I asked AI. For other unenlightened ones like myself, the velvet phase means the antlers are still growing and have a fuzzy, velvety-looking covering. That covering is packed with blood vessels and nerves that rush essential minerals and protein to build hard bone. The soft hair acts like a sensory radar to help the buck avoid hitting trees and hurting his sensitive growing rack. Once the rapid growth phase ends, the antlers start to calcify, transforming them from softer cartilage to hard bone. I took a few average-looking photos. I hope they come again tomorrow morning, and I will be ready and may be able to get better photos.

Visit to Mom
Today I went to the Webb House, which is the assisted living place where my Mom lives in Smithville, TN. There are many nice people there, and she gets great care. Today, I went with her to the in-home beauty shop where she got a hair wash and styling. It was cool enough for us to take a stroll around the property outside. And I ended up having lunch with her. The food is good, and today was turkey, dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a dessert. Below is a link to look at the photo. Second post
Currently, Dane’s grandson Ryan is staying with us. Ryan is a train enthusiast! Earlier this year, while he and Dane were chasing a train, the train actually stopped and let him board. Dane had to drive ahead to get photos and then eventually to pick him up. I created a YouTube channel so I can share my own videos on his site.

Today, I set up this web page. To start with, I will be happy just to get the blog going so I can share our upcoming trip with friends and family. I am going to add a link to a collection in my Google Photos, as I test out what I can do! I will keep doing regular updates to learn more. We have been enjoying our birds.
